A Brief Biography

Some family trees have been fortunate enough to be planted with care in well-lit, nutrient dense soil and grow lush and proud as a result. The Wakefield family tree grew just so in ancient memory, but has grown withered and diseased throughout the expanse of time and ill-fated fortune. Though little is known about how the family came to be cursed, evidence of their many misfortunes are myriad.Malachi Wakefield, the youngest progeny, and heir to what meager inheritance the Wakefield name might offer has led anything but a charmed life. After nearly succumbing to childhood illness, a fate not unlike many of his predecessors I might add, he found he had developed a particular ability to empathize with the dead. By the time he was a young teenager, he had learned to harness skills in clairaudience and clairvoyance, offering him the unique ability to communicate with the dead as one might the living. However, these abilities came with a rather heavy cost, and the emotions, desires, grief and vengeance of the dead quickly came to roost in his own psyche, creating in the boy an unquiet mind.Through years of training, however, Malachi has learned to safeguard his mind, body and spirit from the ministrations of the dead and has turned his strange ability into a career which affords him privileges few in his family have had the benefit to experience. His services as a medium and paranormal investigator are as well known as they are speculated and ridiculed.Will he thrive and be an exception to the rule of the cursed Wakefield name, or will he fall to ruin like those who came before?
